When a Story Grabs You by the Throat!

I think I have ADD.

I must.

I mean, what else could explain it?

I was writing chapter five of a novel set in the Smokey Mountains when another story idea grabbed me by the throat. Without so much as a backward glance, I left the great Smokies and landed in Paris in the Louve. I've written four chapters in five days.

One could say it was just a matter of a stronger storyline, but it's happened before. Go figure.

In July, I was on chapter fifteen of a historical set in Wyoming in 1881, enjoying it greatly when a scene popped into my head. Suddenly I was in a car with a nurse traveling down a dark country road in the hillcountry of Texas, when a man wearing nothing but a pair of cowboy boots, a Stetson and a go-to-hell sneer crested the hill on foot. And I just had to find out what happened.

That story, Storm's Interlude, wrote itself in three months and sold in two weeks. I'm still dazed by all that.

Why does this happen? Why do I get engrossed in one storyline only to be jerked into another? Why can't I finish what I start? Do I have a fickle muse?

Or do I have ADD?

Oooo! I am so jealous Vonnie : ) I wish this would happen for me!

Go for it I say and ride the wave while it lasts. Wonderful things can happen when we allow our creative minds to wander.

Thanks, LaVerne! This morning my heroine and hero are running from a terrorist on the streets of Paris. We were there a few years ago, how nice to revisit in my mind.
