Eight Sentence Sunday -- Weekend Writing Warriors

Gwen grasped the pole higher and pulled herself up, wrapping her legs around it as she climbed. When she reached two-thirds of the way up, she clamped her knees against the metal, arched her back and leaned backwards, her arms reaching toward her audience. Once the blood rushed to her head, she used her strong abdominal muscles to pull herself up. She grasped the pole with one hand, drew her knees up and placed the soles of her shoes against it, slowly revolving around and down. Her slow spin was perfect and the audience’s appreciation, vocal. She had them in the palm of her hand. Her gaze swept over the crowd. Right in the middle of her palm stood Jean-Luc, mouth gaped open with what her daddy called a pole-axed expression.

What should be a wonderful trip to Paris turns menacing when Gwen Morningstar’s daughter is kidnapped by The Red Hand terrorist group. Fortunately, Jean-Luc LeFevre of France’s Counterterrorism Unit is there to rescue her little girl. Gwen is grateful, but her need to apprehend the abductors must override any desire she feels for the handsome agent with his own brand of justice…and danger.

Jean-Luc is not pleased when Gwen, a crime scene photographer with just enough training to get them killed, is assigned to work with him. Not only does she take too many risks, she drives him to distraction.

As Gwen and Jean-Luc track the terrorists, their feelings for each other grow as fast as the danger. Jean-Luc is determined to protect Gwen and her daughter, but the sinister grasp of The Red Hand is strong and far-reaching. It will take more than love to keep them all safe.

Thanks Debbie, actually she's a crime scene photographer who once took pole dancing lessons. She and Jean-Luc are currently doing undercover work.

Sara, thanks. I'm glad to be part of Weekend Writing Warriors.

OK wow, I could really see the scene from your vivid description. No wonder the hero is "pole-axed" (very funny by the way). Terrific snippet!

Vonnie Davis ~ Romance Author said...

Thanks, Veronica. There was a great power play between these two that created a lot of humorous, yet very steamy moments.

Love this scene, Vonnie! So, so good!

Yup, I loved that last line. lol Terrific excerpt, Vonnie. Somehow, pole dancing in one of your books doesn't surprise me a bit. She sounds like quite the character!

Gwen was so much fun to write. She has a bad habit of mumbling that just drives Jean-Luc crazy!

Ah to have the abdominal muscles to do such a thing...

Oh, I know R.E., what I wouldn't give to be so toned and strong. Thanks for stopping by.

LOL! I love this, Vonnie! But then again, I love everything that comes out of your magic fingers. So descriptive and vivid. Poor Jean-Luc. LOL

Vonnie Davis ~ Romance Author said...

Thanks, AJ. Your opinion means so much. And you know poor Jean-Luc doesn't stand a chance. No one has ever made this Frenchman lose control...until one determined American.

Oh, Kate, he gets so angry with her over this antic. They supposed to be undercover...low-key...blending in...NOT.

Vonnie Davis ~ Romance Author said...

Thanks Elaine. I love the word, too.

Loved the description in the choreography. I could see what she was doing, very impressive. I want to know more about Jean-Luc and his expression...The blurb is intriguing too.

Vonnie Davis ~ Romance Author said...

S.J. thanks! Jean-Luc is one of my favorite heroes to write so far. He can be so intense, yet cares so deeply about his small circle of friends.
