Imagine Betty White with Pink Hair and Pelican Slippers

On April 7th, A Highlander's Passion releases. This is book two of my A Highlander's Beloved series.

You know what that means:
  • More kilted men
  • More bear-shifters
  • More surprises
  • More danger
  • More love and desire
  • More laughter
  • More of Effie

I don't know why Effie has become one of the most popular characters in this series. She's in her mid-seventies, says what's on her mind, looks on every man as a sex object, is a survivor of Woodstock and has pink hair. Oh, and she wears pink pelican slippers--or baffies, as the Scottish call them. But I've had some readers write to tell me if I kill Effie off, they will never read anything I ever write again. Some have begged me not to let Effie get sick. To which I say, "Don't worry about Effie. She's got more power than I can handle." Just think of our beloved Betty White with pink hair.

Here's a short scene:
“Now, stop scowling. Your face will freeze like that.” Effie cupped Kenzie’s cheek with her cool hand. “You ought to be smiling. After all, you’re going to dinner with six-feet of hard muscle. My Morris, bless his heavy-hung manhood, was a muscular man too.”
Bloody hell, is she talking about her dead husband’s manly parts? His tadger?
Effie stood and extended her hand to clasp Kenzie’s. “I think if Bryce stood in front of you outside, his broad shoulders would block the sunlight. Oh, I wish I were young enough to get in his shadow just one time.” She puffed an exaggerated sigh and sashayed fer the door.
Kenzie rolled her eyes. Her new boss would take some getting used to. As fer Bryce and his hard body, she’d been rolling around in the grass with him a little over an hour ago. She ken fer herself how hard he was—everywhere.
“I do love Bryce’s aura. Earthy. Honest. Sensual…very sensual.” Effie tossed the words over her narrow shoulder before she and her bouquet of baby-powder floated into the hallway.
Huh. Aura, indeed.

Great excerpt, Vonnie. I had a grandma who wore tie-dye and spoke her mind in one of my earlier books. Loved that character. Yep, you have to keep Effie alive and kicking!

I think Effie deserves her own TV show!

Fabulous - that is all.

Thanks, Jannine. Effie adds that comic relief that stories so often need.

Angela, now wouldn't that be a hoot? My Street Team has already said if one of these books gets made into a movie (HA!), Betty White has to play Effie. I hadn't thought of her until the girls started saying that's how they saw Effie when they read her.

Sandra, Effie still talks a lot about her Morris, her late husband. What fun they must have had together. Now there's a Scot in a kilt who's stated he's going to woo her. I hope his heart is strong enough!

I love Effie too. It's going to be very hard for me to say good-bye to her when the series ends.
