Looking for "Mr. Yin" to her Yang

I'd written the first part of chapter one with the heroine and hero meeting on page two when I came to a screeching halt. Now, as seems to be my nature, I'm going back to do what I should have done in the first place: Plan and plot. Alas, my creative excitement often shifts me into Drive before I've turned on my mental engine.

I had a pretty clear vision of my heroine. Kiki Beth is exactly as her name suggests: a charming combination of kookiness and down-to-earth awareness. Make no mistake about it, though, she is no doormat. Life's handed her some major heartaches, and she's handled them with her unique brand of charm and innate strength. With a degree in journalism, she's inquisitive by training and determined by nature. Unfortunately, like so many journalists, she's laid off from her newspaper gig, thanks to Internet's realtime news services. 

Kiki Beth has returned to Amber Rock, NC to live at her childhood home in the Smokey Mountains--an idyllic place recently discovered by real estate developers. By day, Kiki Beth is a clumsy waittress at her uncle's Lovin' Spoonful Cafe. By night, she secretly writes steamy romance novels. She wears black leather pants when she rides her Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

What man will I bring into her life? Who will rock her world? What qualities would he need to rev her engines? Who would be the yin to her yang?

Enter a most unlikely candidate--Durand Simmons. Eagle Scout. Conservative. A man who takes everything literally; a man with little humor. A geotechnical engineer. I mean, the man drives a Volvo, for heaven's sake!

Kiki quickly nicknames him "Button down." Boy, will she be surprised when she discovers what lurks beneath his button down exterior...
